Activities

The Costa del Azahar in general and Peñíscola as a seaside resort in particular are relatively lesser known to the large public outside of Spain, although Peñíscola doesn’t lack anything in beauty, sights, activities or facilities, compared any other resort in Spain.

In April 2017 the prestigious Sunday Times (UK) put it as follows in a feature entitled Spain’s secret weekends:

“How on earth has a medieval city all but surrounded by the sea, with a humongous Templar castle, magnificent beaches and a passion for food that keeps more than 200 restaurants in business, managed to keep itself out of Britain’s holiday limelight?”

Since the first half of the 20th century, Peñíscola has evolved into a flourishing and buzzing resort with all conceivable relaxation possibilities:

  • Simply enjoy the beach, in the shadow of the awe-inspiring castle.
  • Visit historic sites and museums.
  • Experience the stunning nature of the Sierra de Irta.
  • There are several car rental companies.
  • There are plenty of shopping possibilities: regular shops, supermarkets, gift shops, art galleries, etc.
  • Enjoy one of many excellent restaurants.
  • Enjoy one of the many concerts, the fiestas and other cultural events.
  • Indulge yourself in Peñíscola’s nightlife in one of the many bars and clubs.
  • There are all kinds of outdoor sports, water sports, boat tours, jet-ski rental, snorkelling, etc.
  • Hire a regular bike, a mountain bike, etc.

The Main Tourist Office (Paseo Marítimo).

There is also a small kiosk just below the entrance to the walled city.

Both offer maps and good information.
